It is quite likely that most of you have been receiving friend requests lately from quite weird IDs that usually suggest that a female presence would like to talk to you. Best thing to do is to ignore these requests as specialists are starting to raise users’ attention to a new threat that a worm represents, the Trojan.YIMBot.K.

New Yahoo Messenger VirusThere had been a lot of viruses spreading through Yahoo Messenger in the past, most likely we all know these as we have received strange messages from our friends or even we have been told that we are sending strange messages even when we have our PC turned off. There are a lot of these viruses although the good news is that they can be avoided and dealt with using good antivirus software. This new virus though is somewhat different that all the others and it seems to slip through some antivirus programs as well.

This new virus that lately started spreading is basically a robot that can chat with you. This high technology is also dangerous for the users, who unknowingly accept it on their PC. It is quite polite and it tries to exploit the recent passing of Apple’s founder and leader, Steve Jobs. The virus invites you to subscribe to a website in order to be eligible to one of the free MacBook laptops that Apple is supposedly giving away in the memory of Steve Jobs. This, obviously is a hoax, like most of the other similar messages. Unfortunately for uses, this bot can have quite convincing short conversation with the user and it can even assure you that your antivirus is up to date.

The link that this robot provides leads you to a website and here things can become very dangerous for the user. A high performance antivirus should alert users that the website in question is dangerous and it should block its access.

Still, we recommend you to maximize your computer’s security in order to avoid any possible future inconvenience. You can do this relatively easily. First of all, you must have good antivirus software that is capable of dealing with threats and you must make sure that it is always up to date. Also, we recommend thinking twice when adding an unknown ID in your Messenger list, as this is the best way when problems can be avoided.
